Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972, the Washington County Courthouse is the fifth building to serve Washington County. The prior four buildings were located about a block away near the Old Post Office on the downtown Fayetteville square.

In addition to Old Main on the University of Arkansas campus, the courthouse is one of the prominent historic buildings that compose the Fayetteville skyline.
